Destin - stunningly beautiful seascapes and shoreline
Tragically, Destin is on the peripheral edge of the BP oil spill and while many areas have not been affected in a major way, the uncertainty surrounding a ruined beach holiday is real.
Other Florida beach cities far removed from the oil spill include the Tampa Bay area beaches of Clearwater and St Petersburg. Further south is Sarasota and her Islands and more south of that is the Lee Island Coastal islands of Sanibel and Captiva.
If your heart is set on Destin, it would be prudent to call the area's travel resources and find out what the status is. Be mindful, however, what is acceptable to some, may not be to you. So, call around and get the facts before you go. Go here for up to the minute reports on the oil spill and how it is effect in Destin

The cute name belies the fact that the menu includes sandwiches and burgers, too. Very popular - for good reason - and the building's charm adds to the appeal. Can get busy, expect to wait on the weekend. Crab omelet, anyone? 635 Highway 98 in Destin.
